"Greed, envy, sloth, pride and gluttony: these are not vices anymore. No, these are marketing tools. Lust is our way of life. Envy is just a nudge towards another sale. Even in our relationships we consume each other, each of us looking for what we can get out of the other. Our appetites are often satisfied at the expense of those around us. In a dog-eat-dog world we lose part of our humanity."

Perfect summurization.
but its a very true statement nonetheless.
We can't change everything but we can change how much of it we let poison us while we're here, in this short life, which is both ugly and beautiful.
Maybe we are doomed but we don't have to read the script.
That "we're all doomed, but isn't this espresso delicious?" comment I make on my profile is about this. Find the beauty that is still here, appreciate it, revel in it. Know that it is fragile, and instead of letting it make you angry, let it make you grateful for the moment.
Believe me I know this is hard. I get so frustrated, but I've learned to unplug. Walk away, listen to something besides the talking heads. It's all just noise. Yes, I think we're going to fuck it all up, and I can scream and cry with the time I have here. I do feel sad, and frustrated with this species (of which I'm a part, whether I feel like it or not). But meanwhile life ticks by, and I have learned sometimes you just have to disengage.
Embrace what is amazing, try not to make it worse while you are here, and be glad that while you WERE here, so many things were still beautiful. Honour them not just by fighting for them, but celebrating them.
Life is short. Greed is awful but so is a life spent entranced by everything we dislike instead of focusing on everything that is good. I know it's hard.
Yes, i suppose all one can do is to live day to day and try to enjoy what we can. It would be a better world if everyone did that.
